DA’s Ward 72 launch

ORANGE GROVE - THE DA's Ward 72 delegation launched their election campaign for the area outside the Louis Botha Pick n Pay on 24 May.

Chairpersons and party members handed out pamphlets and spoke to members of the public while giving away cups of Coca-Cola and DA T-shirts.

Eva Hlape, chairperson for the current Ward 72 committee, expressed her hopes for the future of her party. “Why I joined the DA party is because when I sit down and look at what is going on, the other parties don’t fulfill their promises. But the DA, for me, does so. I don’t see [the DA] as a racist party because it is a party for all the nations.”

Michael Mthiya, Ward 66 chairperson, believes that his party’s prospects are bright in the coming elections. “We are aiming to win some municipalities around Gauteng, especially Johannesburg, Ekurhuleni and Pretoria. We are ready.”

Edgar Harris, constituency officer for Johannesburg East, expanded on what the DA can offer Johannesburg. “The DA is here for the people, we are not here for our own self-benefit. We prefer to listen to what the people want so that we can establish those structures to benefit the people of Gauteng and Johannesburg.”

The delegation later moved to Grant Avenue Spar, where they continued to promote their party.
