De La Salle matric dance ‘goes’ to New York

VICTORY PARK - The matric dance at De La Salle Holy Cross College this year was themed around the title Empire State of Mind, and the school hall was transformed into a sophisticated interpretation of New York City.

The hall incorporated all the major American landmarks to make for an elegant evening which was enjoyed by all the 2015 matrics.

As is the school tradition, the Grade 11 pupils raised funds, chose a theme and decorated the hall themselves. The entire school turned out for ‘The Oscars’ when the matrics walked down the red carpet, all to great cheers from fellow pupils.

The evening after the matric dance, the hall was used for the Come Back, Give Back Dance event, where tickets were sold to the parents, and all the money raised was donated to a chosen charity, along with blankets brought along by guests.

“Our grateful thanks to the Grade 11 pupils and the Mothers Committee for the wonderful evening enjoyed by all on Friday night. Our matric dance is such a special tradition in our school and is enjoyed by the whole community in different ways,” said Candice Elliott, head girl.
