Celebrating Sydenham Shul’s Talmud class’ achievement

SYDENHAM - The Sydenham Shul recently celebrated an elegant dinner to mark the completion of an entire book of the Talmud which is a central text of Rabbinic Judaism.

The book has been studied by Rabbi Yossy Goldman’s weekly Talmud class.

Dayan Rabbi Dovid Baddiel of the Beth Din, which is a rabbinical court of Judaism, was the guest speaker, and Harold Jacobs represented the students of the Talmud class.

Rabbi Goldman delivered the final lesson, known as the siyum, which concluded the entire Tractate Rosh Hashanah. This is a text of Jewish law originating in the Mishnah which formed the basis of tractates in both the Babylonian Talmud and the Jerusalem Talmud of the same name.

The new Torah studies shiur, or lessons, will focus on Talmud Sotah. There are 36 participants every Tuesday night at the Rabbi’s home.
