CraigPark residents start business forum

HYDE PARK - The CraigPark Residents' Association (CRA) recently initiated a local business forum.

The association’s first business forum meeting took place on 14 May at the Southern Sun Hotel in Hyde Park.

The event was an opportunity for local business owners from the community to get acquainted with each other. The business forum is aimed at exploring ways in which the businesses in the area can work together on mutually beneficial upliftment projects.

Grant Flaum, business liaison for the association, opened the session while Paulette Malcolm, who is in charge of civic affairs, introduced the Hyde Park Islands project.

Malcolm said the Johannesburg Roads Agency has granted the residents’ association the long-awaited permission to build and develop the ‘islands’ of public space along Jan Smuts Avenue, particularly the patches of open space at the corner of William Nicol Drive and Jan Smuts Avenue.

Initial discussions on design and funding for the proposed project is currently underway and representatives from the association have indicated that they intend to make the space aesthetically pleasing and eco-friendly.

The next meeting will take place on 17 September.
