Down the rabbit hole at Moad

MABONENG - There’s something exciting and different that has been brewing and boiling down the rabbit hole, underneath the Museum of African Design.

The Museum of African Design (Moad), situated in the trendy and regenerated Maboneng Precinct, recently completed renovations to the museum section of the building and re-opened in April.

What people didn’t know was that there was something still to come from the newly-refurbished building.

On 13 May, Moad announced the opening of its new, whimsical bar called the March Hare.

The March Hare, situated in the bassment of Moad, isn’t just your average dark and dingy, run-of-the-mill bar.

The entrance to the bar, stage right of the Moad entrance, looks a lot like a door to the underworld.

As guests descend down the steep stairs, they are met with a dark room filled with mannequins and art, and a lit up pathway leading to the door of the March Hare.

The March Hare is a dimly lit, hip and trendy spot that is decorated with books.

The space, although industrial, is also very whimsical and really does look like the famous rabbit hole of wonder in the popular tale of Alice in Wonderland.

The opening delivered an unexpected, but nevertheless pleasing, night for the visitors, who were no doubt surprised at what they received.

With their signature drinks and the cosy and quaint space that allows visitors to mingle and chat, it really is a place for the trendy Maboneng crowd.
