Man beaten for watch in Houghton

HOUGHTON- A 63-year-old jogging on West street on the evening of 9 May was mugged and assaulted by two males in a silver Mercedes.

According to the victim, Clive Kinnaird, the suspects demanded his watch.

“The Mercedes pulled up next to me and two men jumped out with knives. However, I assumed they were heading to the property on the road. I felt a blow to the back of my head,” he said.

Sergeant Sanyane of Norwood police said, “We urge the public to take caution when they are in the public eye and not to show off their valuables. Criminals take this opportunity to target victims when they are vulnerable, especially early in the morning or when it starts to get dark.”

Kinnaird added, “I was wearing my gold Rolex which I have had for about 30 years or so. The criminals demanded it and kept hitting me at random as they spoke to me. They threatened to stab me if I did not comply. I gave it to them and flagged down a car for help as I was bleeding from the head and mouth.”
