UPDATE: Lawyers for Human Rights in court to stop deportation of 200 foreigners

JOBURG - Lawyers for Human Rights (LHR) is set to launch an urgent application to hamper the deportation of hundreds of foreigners this morning at the South Gauteng High Court.

UPDATE: Lawyers for Human Rights (LHR) have been successful in delaying the deportation process by the Department of Home Affairs in the High Court in Johannesburg on 12 May.

The order granted by the Court allows for the LHR to consult with the foreigners.

It is believed that the foreigners are still being held at Johannesburg Central Police Station.

Initial report: This is a result of recent raids that have taken place by the Department of Home Affairs and the South African Defence Force which took place on 8 May.

Colonel Katlego Mogale said the raids were as a result of the recent spat of xenophobic attacks that have taken place around the country over the past month.
