Man arrested for theft of power cables, accomplice flees

BELLVUE - A SUSPECT has been arrested for being in possession of electricity cables on the corner of Mons and Arthur streets in Bellevue on 5 May.

Constable Thabo Malatji of Yeoville police said, “A member of the community noticed two suspicious-looking males busy trying to cut the copper cables and notified police immediately.”

According to Malatji, when the suspects saw the police they ran away. However, officers managed to catch one of the suspects who was arrested and detained at Yeoville Police Station.

Constable Malatji added, “We are currently looking for the other suspect.”

The arrested suspect is expected to appear in the Hillbrow Magistrates’ Court soon.
