Two suspects arrested for drugs and unlicensed firearm

SYDENHAM - The South African Police Service has reported that Sydenham Police Station Crime Prevention members arrested two suspects aged 19 and 28 who were found in possession of drugs and an unlicensed firearm.

According to the service, it is alleged that members were performing their crime prevention duties on 24 April when they followed up on information that led them to a flat. Permission was obtained to search the premises which led to the recovery of a 9mm pistol and 15 rounds of live ammunition. Officers also recovered 655 ecstasy tablets, 10 mandrax tablets, 68 whoonga (or nyaope) straws, 29 crack cocaine packets and four packets of cocaine. The street value of the drugs is R46 320.

The recovered firearm will be sent for ballistic testing to ascertain if it has been used in the commission of any crime in the country. The arrested suspects are due to appear in court soon.
