JOBURG – The Pretoria High Court ruled on 30 April that a terminally ill man has the right to end his life.

According to a report on News24, the ruling by Judge Hans Fabricus will allow a doctor to help cancer patient Robin Stransham-Ford commit suicide.

The doctor will not face disciplinary action or prosecution.

Former advocate Stransham-Ford was diagnosed with terminal prostate cancer in 2013.

The application was opposed by the ministers of justice and health, as well as by the Health Professions Council of South Africa and the National Director of Public Prosecutions.
