BREAKING NEWS: Bus crash on Jan Smuts Avenue; multiple patients

PARKVIEW - Two buses collided on Jan Smuts Avenue near the Johannesburg Zoo.

Rosebank Killarney Gazette’s journalists on the scene confirmed that two buses had collided head-on. It appeared that the bus hit a curb when driving in a turning lane on the road and it is believed that the driver over-compensated and collided with another on-coming bus.

It is still unclear how many patients are injured or if there are any fatalities.

Ward 117 councillor Tim Truluck calls this stretch of road the Saxonwold bend and said it was a slippery and dangerous road.

24 April, 7.56am:

City of Joburg Emergency Services spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi said there were multiple patients and that emergency services were on their way to the scene. He warned motorists that traffic had been delayed in the area.

Ward 117 councillor Tim Truluck tweeted that two buses were involved in the collision, however @JhbNorthMedix tweeted that the collision involved a car and a bus. @JhbNorthMedix said Emer-G-Med was on its way to the scene.

Some reports said that traffic on Jan Smuts Avenue was blocked off in both directions.

It is unclear how many people are injured in the accident at this stage.

Rosebank Killarney Gazette is on its way to the scene. Updates to follow.
