According to Reggie Mokalapa, general manager for Capital Infrastructure Development at Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo, sections of the fence around the Upper Park Drive entrance is made of a steel palisade fence which has endured severe wear and tear and rusted quite drastically over the years.
“Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo then proceeded to replace concrete palisade sections which were found to be ‘leaning’ and that were structurally unsound. This to ensure that we mitigated the risk of collapse which would compromise safety and security at the Zoo,” said Mokalapa.
Mokalapa was unable to confirm the costs involved.
