Gruesome video used to fuel xeno attacks

JOBURG - Threats of xenophobic attacks in Joburg are beginning to surface following the incident on Jeppe Street on Wednesday morning.

There are threats of xenophobic attacks set to take place in the Joburg CBD.

Following these threats, a video of mob justice which took place in Rustenburg, is being used to fuel the current xenophobic attacks taking place in South Africa.

In the description of the video, the first line reads, “We have travelled the world and have not found one country that allows the floods of humans across its borders as South Africa is experiencing. Even in war-torn [countries] like Syria, Ukraine, Yemen and Somalia.”

In the horrific video, which has just 16 views, a group is seen setting fire to four teenagers who are tied together with a tyre between each pair.

The description also states, “In Johannesburg alone you have taken over entire suburbs: Yeoville, Berea, Bez Valley, Turfontein amongst many. You have even moved into rural parts of our country that have 80 percent unemployment; and there are no visible signs that you have jobs either. But there are signs of drug dealing, prostitution and other criminal acts that you conduct – sometimes in cahoots with desperate locals.”

The text in the description of the video indicates that more attacks will occur should foreigners not leave.

According to a foreign shop owner who works close to Jeppe Street, the drama unfolded this morning.

Patrice Siyabanda said, “I am getting out of here. The situation is about to explode. I will not take a chance. There are threats from mobs almost daily now.”

It is believed this is why foreign shop owners shut their doors this morning.

Watch a video of a man who witnessed the incident on Jeppe Street this morning:

Wayne Minnaar of the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police said, “The situation is now calm. We have a large police presence in the Joburg CBD in order to monitor the situation.”

According to News24, an Ethiopian street vendor said that he received SMSes and WhatsApp messages warning that he and his countrymen faced attack on Wednesday.

According to the news website, the SMS reads: “It seems that there are attacks planned for Johannesburg on Wednesdays: CBD, Hillbrow, Berea and Yeoville. [On] Wednesday, Zulu people are coming to town starting from Market [street] their mission is to kill every foreigner on the road please pass this to all your contacts in case they come people should be on alert [sic].
