59 suspects arrested over Easter

YEOVILLE - THE YEOVILLE police, together with the Johannesburg Metropolitan police, have arrested 59 suspects over the Easter weekend. Most of the offenses include driving while under the influence of alcohol, possession of stolen property, possession of drugs, theft, assault, domestic violence, shoplifting, malicious damage to property, robbery and contravention of the liquor act.

This follows a crime prevention operation conducted by the members of South African Police Service and the Johannesburg Metropolitan police over the festive weekend.

Thabo Malatji of Yeoville police said, “I am happy with the arrests that were made. The South African Police Service along with the Johannesburg Metropolitan police have worked hard to make these arrests.”

Yeoville resident Albertina Melalane said, “Congratulations to all that were involved when it came to making the arrests over the Easter weekend. I need to voice to the public that the police do their jobs well. I feel that it is up to our justice department to make convictions and to not let the public or the police down.”

Most of the suspects are expected to appear in Hillbrow and Johannesburg Magistrates’ Courts soon.
