The proceeds went to DL Link, a non-profit organisation that devotes itself to the support of breast cancer patients.
Dr Carol Benn, considered to be one of the top breast cancer experts in South Africa according to the International Woman’s Forum, gave the opening address.
She said, “Going through the diagnosis of breast cancer is hard, going through the treatment after, may be even harder. Going through chemotherapy is sometimes like climbing Mount Everest.
“All they need is support and help, and a lot of my patients have received support and help from this wonderful organisation.
“We want people to realise it’s not the diagnosis, it’s the aftercare down the line, it’s walking the road with a friend and someone to hold their hand. We thank organisations such as the DL Link for guiding and helping people on their breast cancer journey. ”
Terri Fleishman of DL Link said, “Ellaine Hirshowitz’s art is inspiring and motivating as it captures all the emotions she has experienced throughout her life.”
