Cycling for all

JOBURG - THE City of Johannesburg is fast-becoming a cycle friendly-city for all its residents as road spaces are now being used by cyclists.

To promote cycling in the City, the City of Johannesburg will host a week of activities from 16 to 22 March. Events will include activation’s in Braamfontein, Houghton, Orlando, Diepsloot and Sandton CBD.

Activities planned for the week will involve a two-day seminar with engineers and architects. A conference on creating cycling-friendly cities and a Freedom Ride on 22 March between Houghton, Alexandra, Sandton and surrounding suburbs will take place during the Cycle Jozi week.

Lisa Seftel, part of Cycle Jozi said the week-long cycling initiative aims at promoting walking and cycling as a mode of transport, and aims to reduce the City’s traffic congestion. Cycle Jozi is encouraging a healthier life-style among its residents.

The City of Johannesburg wants to encourage more residents of Johannesburg to make use of cycle transport and use the cycle lanes that are being built in and around the city.
