Lion dances welcome in Chinese New Year

RIVONIA - Lion dances welcomed in the Chinese New Year at Rivonia Oriental City on 21 February.

The Chung Wah Dragon and Lion Dance Troupe, rotated through the mall in a traditional new year’s ceremony.

Drums were banged and cymbals clashed as four dancers operating two lion puppets, followed closely by the rest of their troupe and curious bystanders, visited shops inside the mall in a ceremony to invite good fortune and prosperity for the coming year.

The performance was part puppetry and part traditional dance as the two ‘Lions’ collected red envelopes containing cash dangled outside the front entrance of each store inside.

Following the lunar calendar, the Year of the Goat officially commenced on 19 February.
