Kitcheners is a vibrant local pub in Braamfontein and the second oldest bar in the Joburg area that showcases the talent of local comedians, up-and-coming musicians and many other gifted individuals. The entrance fee to this venue doesn’t usually exceed R50 and will therefore leave you with enough extra cash to buy some food and drinks while you’re entertained by the locals.

Poolside, an Italian style ‘All day aperitivo’, is situated in the bustling Maboneng area. There’s no entrance fee to the Poolside and swimming is mandatory, so for the long, hot summer days this is the place to be for sun, fun, food and friends.

The Sci-Bono Discovery Centre in Newtown will keep the kids busy all day long. This centre is the largest of its kind in Southern Africa and is an award winning edutainment centre that showcases the latest in scientific and technological developments. Entry for adults is R35, for kids aged 3 to 16 is R20 and for a limited time only the centre will be letting public school groups enter for free! This offer lasts from 14 January to 28 February.

The Bioscope is Maboneng’s very own independent cinema that screens all the latest interesting underground films that have not made it to commercial movie houses. Currently, screening movies is a part of their 2015 Film Festival: Best Films of 2014.
