Rapist hands victim’s own money back for transport

JOBURG - THE alleged rapist, Lawrence Mabunda, would allegedly rape and rob his victims and then hand them back their own money for transport to flee the scene.

He faces 22 counts of rape, 13 counts of kidnapping, 13 counts of robbery with aggravated assault, attempted murder and illegal possession of a firearm and appeared at the South Gauteng High Court on 20 February.

The events allegedly took place place in 2010 at the Noord taxi rank in the Johannesburg CBD. Mabunda, better known by the public as the taxi rapist, would allegedly lure in women by offering them transport, however to the victims horror, take them to a field where he would allegedly rape, assault and rob them.

Mabunda has denied all the charges, however the state prosecutor stated that each of the victims identified him straight away at the various identity parades that took place. With the assistance of forensic science, the state have matched his DNA with the victims.
