Video of Metro Bus being removed from accident scene in Joburg CBD

JOBURG - A Metrobus en route from the Milpark depot slid off the Elizabeth Bridge in Braamfontein at 6.20am on 25 February.

Initial report: The bus was on its way to the Westgate holding area. The bus fell into a rail yard below.

Luckily there were no passengers on board. The driver manage to escape with minor injuries and was taken to Milpark Hospital.

Esther Dreyer, the national spokesperson for Metrobus said, “A replacement bus was dispatched to ferry passengers [from Westgate] and this arrangement will continue for the rest of the day on the affected route. The bus allocated for this shift was a 2006 Mercedes Benz bus and was mechanically sound as it had recently been overhauled at the depot workshop.

“Management of Metrobus deeply regrets the accident and the inconvenience to our commuters. A thorough investigation will be conducted to ascertain the cause of the accident and appropriate remedial action will be taken.”
