Armed robbers target gardener in Parkwood

PARKWOOD - AN ARMED robbery occurred in Parkwood on 13 February at midday.

According to Rosebank Police spokesperson Sergeant Bongani Mdletshe, two armed men approached a gardener outside a property. The suspects then forced their way into the house and tied up both the domestic worker and the gardener.

Police noted that there was a third suspect in the getaway vehicle, a grey Audi.

The suspects escaped with an undisclosed amount of cash. Fortunately, none of the staff were harmed during the incident.

Mdletshe also expressed concern that this may be a growing trend in house robberies. Both ADT Security and Rosebank police have advised that residents remain vigilant and aware that their staff may be targeted by criminals.

ADT recommended that all staff be equipped with panic buttons, and noted that it would be more prudent if staff were not provided with gate remotes while working outside the property. The security company suggested that an alternate arrangement be made, whereby staff working outside the property have to be let in and out by someone inside the property, citing that by doing so, criminals will more likely be discouraged by the lack of quick and easy access.

Furthermore ADT advised that staff can be trained in various aspects of crime prevention at local Domestic Watch meetings.
