St Mary’s does Midmar

WAVERLEY - The St Mary's School head of sport, known as Quix, joined a Grade 12 pupil, Kayleigh Gultig, in a test of endurance as the pair took on the Midmar Mile.

The school’s head of sport swam the Midmar Mile for a staggering 39th time this year.

The world’s largest open-water swim commemorated its 42nd anniversary. Quix’s dedication is almost unrivalled, and only one other woman, Gail Bristow, has more swims under her belt than her.

Quix and matric pupil Kayleigh Gultig joined the gruelling Midmar 8 Mile Club, and the pair proved their mettle by completing all eight races on the Midmar Mile programme.

The Midmar 8 Mile Club raises funds for various charitable organisations, and between them, Quix and Gultig raised almost R30 000 for their chosen charity, the Wildlands Trust. Their funds will contribute to efforts to save the rhino.
