R11-million defrauded from widow

NORWOOD - FOLLOWING the passing of an unnamed wealthy businessman, two banks have been defrauded of an estimated R11-million according to a docket opened at the Norwood Police Station towards the end of last year.

Detective Constable Mbhekiseni Jiyane of the Norwood police said, “An unknown woman falsified an ID document and fraudulently posed as the widow of the deceased businessman. She preceded to withdraw and transfer funds out of the deceased’s estate.

“After suspicions arose from transactions whereby the suspect would draw large amounts of money, one of the banks conducted an audit of all of the accounts. It then emerged that the deceased businessman had a legitimate wife that knew nothing of these transactions.”

The Norwood police are urging members of the public to come forward and identify the woman in the picture believed to be the offender.
