Well-spoken robbers in Parkhurst

PARKHURST - A gang of 'well-spoken' assailants were allegedly involved in a house robbery in Parkhurst.

The incident took place at a property on 2nd Street on 22 January.

According to witness accounts, the gang of four men were armed and well dressed. They drove a silver BMW into the garage where the gardener was working.

The property also has a home office where Claude Baissac and Jennie Dallas were holding a meeting.

The gang of men tied up Dallas and the gardener, then demanded Baissac to accompany them in the raid.

20 minutes later, colleague Marian Geddes arrived on the premises.

“I unsuspectingly entered the property and found [Baissac] downstairs with the assailants,” said Geddes.

The assailants then led her and Baissac upstairs and tied them up. They took Geddes’ vehicle as they made their escape.

Geddes noted that the suspects were in their early 20s to mid 30s. “They made off with jewellery, laptops, televisions, handbags and iPods. They [also] kept asking for the safe,” she said.

All the victims of the robbery pointed out that the men were very well spoken.

“When they came into the office, I didn’t realise it was a robbery and wondered why there were so many gardeners,” said Dallas.

She also pointed out that there was no shouting, violence or screams during the incident.

Baissac suspects that the gang has been active in the area before, as their modus operandi seemed similar to other house robberies in the suburb.

Parkview Police Station spokesperson Sergeant Lloyd Ramovha confirmed that the case was currently under investigation and no arrests have been made.

Ramovha stated that the police were not aware of the existence of a gang targeting the Parkhurst area, however he emphasised that there was a growing trend of opportunistic robberies being perpetuated, as residents neglectfully left garages and gates open.

The police have urged residents to be vigilant when entering and exiting their properties.
