UJ prof’s killer sentenced to life

NORWOOD - THE SOUTH Gauteng High Court sentenced Jacques Terreblanche on 11 January to life in imprisonment for the murder of University of Johannesburg Law Professor Carl Mischke at his home in Norwood in April 2013.

Terreblanche was given an additional 15 years for robbery with aggravating circumstances. Craig Thomas, Terreblanche’s co-accused was sentenced to 20 years for Mischke’s murder in 2014.

According to Thomas’ statements given at the time of his arrest in 2013 by the Norwood police, the murder and robbery of Mischke took place because of his and Terreblanche’s drug addiction. Judge Geraldine Borchers of the South Gauteng High Court said that not all drug addicts commit crimes of this nature.
