Waste recyclers no longer collect

ROSEBANK - Local residents in the Rosebank Killarney Gazette's distribution area have queried their waste recycler's non-collection for the past month.

The company, Mama She’s Waste Recyclers, caters for several suburbs including Craighall, Craighall Park, Dunkeld, Westcliff, Parkhurst and Parkview.

The company signs residential clients and for an extra fee, collects recyclable waste from households in their signature blue bags.

However, from the beginning of January, residents from various suburbs have noted that the company had stopped it’s usual collection routine.

Residents have noted contradicting and confusing feedback regarding the situation given from the company.

Members of the community who live in the suburbs of Parkview, Dunkeld and Craighall Park, who have their collection days on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, have noted that no such collection in the past week was provided. This despite some residents being assured by the company that the service would resume.

Wendy McAllister from the Craigpark’s Residents’ Association stated that a general email was sent to subscribers in mid-January informing them that collection would be suspended until further notice.

There has been no concrete clarity from management and as a result, the residents’ association issued a cancellation notice to the company on 26 January.

The Rosebank Killarney Gazette contacted the owner of Mama She. After initially refusing to comment, Sahesh Moothi mentioned that the company was going through restructuring and was unable to provide information on when collection would resume.

However, several days later staff at the company stated on the record that collections of waste recyclable materials will no longer resume.

Elisabeth Lejaka from Mama She stated that they were in the process of sending out email notifications to their customers and further recommended that should residents still be interested in a collection service, they should contact Carmen Rayner, the company’s former project manager who has started her own independent collection service.

The company will still function as a buy back centre, and will still offer remuneration for recyclable waste despite no longer performing household collection.
