Facebook really knows your face

JOBURG - FACEBOOK has become much better at tagging you in pictures – could it be too good?

The software used by Facebook to recognise faces is called Deepface and has been developed to the point where it has recognition capabilities almost as accurate as that of a human being.

“The software is now going to older photo’s (perhaps the photo’s you’ve forgotten about, or do not want people to see) and tagging the recognisable faces,” explains CNET’s Dan Ackerman.

The software requires many pictures of the same person in order to be able to recognise them and from there it learns who the faces belong to, based on the ones that pop up over and over again.

The setting can be turned off on your individual Facebook account, but as Facebook users are aware, this is not always an easy task.
