Shadow Labour Minister Ian Ollis takes on tough role

ROSEBANK - The Democratic Alliance has appointed Shadow Labour Minister Ian Ollis Member of Parliament as the head of the Alex-Sandton Constituency including wards in Alexandra west bank, Sandton Central, Rosebank, Hyde Park and Randburg.

Wards included in the constituency include Ward 109, 108, 107, 91, 103, 102, 90 and 117. “Each of the areas in this constituency deserve special attention and have different needs,” explained Ollis.

“Topping the list for the Rosebank area is integrated transport functioning and pedestrian walkways. The Gautrain is a huge success, however transport isn’t integrated properly. Keeping the public transport system integrated… there is no official plan to integrate the public roads,” Ollis said.

According to Ollis, the Gautrain buses have to park on the side of the road when they not operating as there is no space. Ollis also explained that road resurfacing was urgently required in some areas of Parkhurst.

Ollis said that he would be working together with residents’ associations to find out which roads were the most urgent. “In the Hyde Park, Craighall and Sandhurst areas, bylaw enforcement is extremely important, specifically dangerous driving behaviour as well as town planning.” To combat these matters of concern, Ollis will work together with DA councillors in Rosebank.and Craighall.

“I have to work with my councillors as I am not a councillor,” said Ollis.
