University professor murder case postponed

NORWOOD - Following the murder of a University of Johannesburg professor Carl Mischke at his Norwood home in April 2013, the trial has been postponed.

The trial of Jacques Terreblanche was set to commence for the murder of professor Carl Mischke on the 3 February, however the trial was postponed by the South Gauteng High Court due to poor communication between the South African Police Service and prison officials.

The main witness and co-accused, Craig Thomas, had not been brought to court as the sufficient arrangements had not been made by the South African Police Service and the Department of Correctional Services. The court had to intervene in order to arrange that Thomas be brought to the trail. The trial commenced on 4 February.

Mischke was found to have been stabbed to death and robbed at his home in April 2013. Craig Thomas was familiar with Mischke and lead Terreblanche to his home where they went about the ransacking of his house. Craig Thomas was sentenced to 20 years for the murder of Mischke.
