Crowds gathered at Zoo Lake for silence walk

PARKVIEW - In light of the Charlie Hebdo terror attack that took the lives of 12 people, many French immigrants in South Africa gathered at Zoo Lake to show their support for those who died in the tragedy.

Democratic Alliance Ward 117 councillor Tim Truluck supported the march. Even though he was not present, said everybody has the right to freedom of speech and expression.

The twittersphere was abuzz with millions showing their support and uniting together by tweeting.

“#ParisAttack A crowd of people have gathered at Zoo Lake in Joburg to to demonstrate over the Charlie Hebdo massacre,” tweeted Thandokuhle Kubheka.

Also at the event was Valentine Gaudin (@ValentineGaudin) who tweeted “Touchdown Zoo Lake, silence walk for #CharlieHebdo.”

Sizwe Dhlomo (@SizweDhlomo) tweeted: “The Muslim officer who died trying to defend the Charlie Hebdo headquarters should get the highest honour!”

Others also joined in the discussion. “Good to see French nationalism! Something Zuma has been unable to create in the new South Africa!” stated Don on Twitter (@Don).

The Hebdo attacks have caused millions to stand up and unite for freedom of speech and expression.
