Trade your resolutions in for a bucket list

JOBURG - The thing about resolutions is that if you don't accomplish them the same year, then you feel you have somewhat failed in your intentions.

This is according to one of the most popular bloggers in South Africa and probably one of the first, Wenchy.

“I started blogging 18 years ago when you still coded a blog. There was no complete the blanks and you have a blog. I’ve kept a diary since I was 12 years old and blogging became an extension of that. I can’t imagine a life where I don’t write,” she said as she introduced herself.

City Buzz caught up with the now 41-year-old blogger who advised that we must swap the concept of resolutions for a bucket list.

“A new year’s resolution is an intention to accomplish something within the next year. To me, a bucket list has no intended beginning or end and is forever evolving,” she said.

According to the Google dictionary, a bucket list can be defined as a number of experiences or achievements that a person hopes to have or accomplish during their lifetime.

Wenchy said she drew up a bucket list after having gone through a painful divorce and it has somewhat given her some direction in life.

She believes unlike a list of resolutions which most people feel guilty for not completing at the end of the year, a bucket list could have a much more positive effect on a person’s life.

“My husband [@sirnoid] has often directed visits or experiences to fit in something on my bucket list, like tea at The Lord Nelson in Cape Town. If you believe in the power of the universe I think putting it out there may just draw what you want to you,” she added.

Usually people have a limited number of activities to do on their lists, but Wenchy feels there needs to be no end to a bucket list.

“My bucket list is not a fixed list, so I am forever adding things I would still like to do in my life which means there is always something to work towards. Something that is right at the top for me at the moment is writing that forever elusive biography,” she said.
