St Mary’s matrics excel
WAVERLEY - St Mary's reap the rewards of a strong work ethic and an ethos of excellence.
The 2014 matric class at St Mary’s School Waverley has done their school proud, with an impressive 376 distinctions achieved by the 111 pupils in this year’s matric class.
The school’s top achiever, Ciara Rowe, scooped an astonishing 10 distinctions. Not far behind her with eight distinctions to their names were Alexandra Barry, Terri Elie, Simone Faesen, Grace High, Ndivhuwo Magondo, Jessie Moore and Thalia Rogers. A further eight girls achieved seven distinctions each.
Rowe, Elie and Rogers received the further recognition of being placed among the IEB’s Outstanding Achievers, scoring among the top five percent of IEB pupils in six or more of their subjects. Faesen, meanwhile, ranked in the IEB’s Commendable Achievers, being placed in the top five percent in five or more subjects.
Unsurprisingly, St Mary’s matric pass rate was 100 percent, and the school achieved a 99 percent university exemption rate. A total of 37 pupils scored an average of 80 percent or more across their subjects, 57 pupils received an average of 75 percent or more, and 29 girls were listed in the top one percent in one or more subjects.
“We are particularly proud that all our girls consistently achieved excellent results. They display total commitment to perfection and they value their education and the role that it plays in their futures,” commented headmistress Deanne King.
