Dancing the years away

LYNDHURST - Toe-tapping and twirling at weekly dance sessions keeps residents of Elphin Lodge young at heart.

Betty Abramowitz will turn 91 in February, but she continues to dance her heart out each week at Elphin Lodge’s line dancing classes, where she is the oldest participant.

Each Monday, about 30 eager dancers fill the hall at the Rand Aid Association retirement village, where they step and spin to the beat of catchy tunes.

Ann Haddow has presented the classes for the past two years, and the group gave its first concert in November. On 1 December, organiser and Elphin Lodge resident Adrienne Reid hosted a Christmas tea for Haddow and their fellow dancers. Unsurprisingly, the festive event culminated in a cheerful line dancing lesson.
