Rosebank’s Rotary Club awards selflessness

ROSEBANK - THE Rosebank Rotary Club has recognised five outstanding individuals who have dedicated themselves to community service.

In an internal club event, the awards function was a culmination of a well-thought-out nomination process.

Annually the club recognises people who have made an outstanding contribution to community service – usually those nominated have already dedicated many years to their chosen cause.

“Club members are invited to submit nominations along with a motivation letter. After closing day, the committee

shortlists the nominations, which are then sent to the board for approval,” said Lyn Collocott of Rosebank Rotary Club.

Those nominated had to demonstrate dedication and exemplary leadership, embodying the Rotary’s core motto ‘service above self’, she said.

The five recipients of the Vocational Services Awards were, Roger Scott Chadwick for re-establishing the Orchards project as a skills

development and training centre in the arts; Noelene Kotschan, for her work at PinkDrive in initiating South Africa’s first mobile diagnostic mammography breast cancer screening; David Parker, for his work at the SA Guide-Dogs Association for the

Blind; Paul Fairall, for mentoring students in the field of wetland conservation and rehabilitation; and Eileen Benn for her dedication to helping the less fortunate through the All Nations Ministry where Benn distributes clothes and food to the needy.

The Rosebank Rotary Club also endeavours to support worthy causes, included in the club’s various activities is the annual blanket drive for the underprivileged and the annual Makro Christmas hamper collection for food donations which enables the club’s members to bring Christmas cheer to those in need this festive season.
