Celebrating young achievers

GLENHAZEL - Glenhazel Primary School celebrated the achievements of its youngest pupils at the Foundation Phase prize giving.

Parents, siblings and teachers gathered in the school hall early on 2 December to look on with pride as the academic achievements of pupils in grades 1 to 3 were celebrated during the school’s annual prize giving ceremony. The top three achievers in each class were recognised and awarded a small trophy, while those who achieved steadily throughout the year, or showed significant progress, received certificates.

The morning’s celebrations started with a Biblical play, enthusiastically performed by Grade 3 pupils, before school principal, Madika Thomas, welcomed parents and thanked staff and pupils for their hard work.

“I want to say to these children that they have really run their race well…Today, your children and our children have honoured you and they have honoured us,” she said, reminding pupils that constant practice and perseverance were the key to success.

Thomas further appealed to parents to teach their children discipline and respect for their elders at home.

After a Grade 3 dance performance, pupils received their prizes from chairman of the school board, Victor Lelala, to the sound of loud cheers, and parents rushed forward to take photographs as their children posed proudly with their awards. Those who did not receive an award were reminded to use the prize giving ceremony as a motivation to work hard in order to gain success next year.
