Without electricity, without answers

HURLINGHAM - Residents in Hurlingham and Orchards have expressed outrage towards Eskom and City Power following a series of power outages with no real explanation being given.

Hurlingham resident Margaret van Eyssen said she had been experiencing outages intermittently from 21 November. She added that the most recent outage, which has affected her house and four others in Hurlingham, occurred at 4.30pm on 26 November, and still has not been turned on.

She said she has struggled with Eskom who has not given her any clear explanation regarding the outages.

Spokesperson for Eskom Sipho Neke said, “It could be a localised problem as there has not been any load shedding scheduled for this week.”

Neke added that the residents should contact City Power, who Orchards resident Forsythe Je has had an equal amount of trouble with. He claims that his power has been off since 10pm on 26 November.

Communication manager at City Power Sol Masolo said, “I have communicated with our technicians who will sort out the problem.”

Ward 90 councillor Anthony Still said, “The bottom line is that City Power must be told by Eskom when the power must be restored, and at the moment the communication between the two of them is very bad. Their scheduling is all wrong. Another thing to mention is when the power is restored in an area, a few houses are left out, and City Power tends to close the book on that issue. This leaves certain residents trying to convince them that their power is still off.”
