‘Fake DVD suppliers’ nabbed

HILLBROW – As it was report in the SABC earlier this year that the country’s music industry is on a battle of piracy, artists, the record companies losing an estimated R500 million each year to piracy and to curb that criminal act, Hillbrow police nabbed two alleged fake DVDs and CDs manufacturers.

HILLBROW – The country’s artists and record companies reportedly lose an estimated R500 million each year due to piracy and to help curb this criminal act, Hillbrow police have nabbed two alleged fake DVDs and CDs manufacturers.

According to police, they arrested the two men for contravening the Copy Right’s Act after they received a tip-off from a public member. The public member informed police about the illegal manufacturing of DVDs and CDs at Tudhope Gardens at the corner of Tudhope and Abel streets. Hillbrow police spokesperson Sergeant Mduduzi Zondo said, “The police followed the lead and went to the address and went to 5th and 12th floors at Tudhope Gardens where found the machines which are used to manufacture fake DVDs and CDs.”

Zondo added that the police also confiscated an assortment of fake music and movie DVDs and fake music CDs. He stated that police also arrested two men whom police believe are the suppliers to the street vendors who sell fake DVDs and CDs. The suspects, aged 27 and 29 respectively, are expected to appear at the Hillbrow Magistrates’ Court soon.
