Inspiring Jewish children

JOBURG - THERE'S a drive to inspire enthusiasm for Jewish ceremony in the children of the Johannesburg Jewish community by Mitzvah Kidz.

High school and university students visited 12 Gauteng nursery and pre-primary schools on 14 November to launch Mitzvah Kidz, a country-wide initiative to educate young children and inspire in them a passion for doing Mitzvahs.

A campaign by the Lubavitch Foundation and Chabad House, Mitzvah Kidz is a response to the number of sick children within the Jewish community, and seeks to inspire children and their families to do a Mitzvah, in order to bring more light and healing to the world.

At schools including Eden College, King David Linksfield, Torah Academy, Yeshiva Maharsha and Yeshiva College, students dressed in bright orange performed an educational play about Shabbat for pupils, as well as handing out Little Miss Mitzvah and Little Mister Mitzvah books. Each little girl was provided with a Shabbat candlestick, while each boy received a Kiddush cup.

The launch of Mitzvah Kidz, which was enthusiastically received by all, is only the first in a series of exciting programmes planned by Mashi Lipskar, Gabriella Mendelsohn and Simcha Youngworth of Mitzvah Kidz.
