Help the cute and cuddly

ILLOVO - A cute and furry treat was given to local residents when the first Adoption Awareness Day event was brought to Illovo giving them the opportunity to learn about the importance of adoption, while playing with some cuddly friends on 22 November.

With animal shelters and rescue centres from all over Johannesburg gathered at The Reserve in Illovo, the event gave each organisation the opportunity to help create a great deal of awareness among the general public on the importance of animal adoption and developing much-needed support for the local animal shelters and rescue centres with many animals looking for a loving home.

The event also saw stray and unwanted animals, desperately looking for a home, socialising with local residents.

Event organiser Bronwyn Yarr said, “Each shelter and organisation has been invited to bring some of their rescued animals looking for families to join in on the day. I feel this makes a bigger impact on people. For those animals that cannot be there, every shelter and organisation will be bringing a portfolio of as many of, if not all, their animals that require families.”

Irwin Rescue Centre representative Tanya Sequeira said, “This type of day is very important for people to get to know the different shelters.”
