Norwood police urge residents to be vigilant

NORWOOD - Norwood police have urged residents to be vigilant over the Christmas and New Year period.

Norwood Police Station commander Colonel Zoleka Khuboni took it upon herself to speak to North Eastern Tribune in her effort to make sure that the community living in the Norwood policing precinct use all precautionary measures available to combat crime over the festive season.

Khuboni said, “At this time of the year crime increases as the criminals are desperate for money. Those who will be driving to shopping malls must ensure that their cars are properly locked by testing the doors before they leave their cars.”

Khuboni further advised ATM users not to accept help from strangers. “House owners must make sure they take all safety measures before they leave for holidays. Motorists must drive safely and obey the rules of the road, drive sober and be patient.”

She wished all community members a merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year. She lauded her colleagues for discovering an arms cache in the precinct. “That was one of our many successes.”
