Linksfield development public meeting rescheduled

LINKSFIELD - A public meeting to discuss the Linksfield Mixed-Use Development has been rescheduled after Interested and Affected Parties (I&APs) expressed their discontent with time and location arrangements.

As plans unfold for a mixed-use residential and commercial development on the the portion of the old Rietfontein Farm – currently the site of Sizwe Hospital – tensions have risen between I&APs and environmental consulting company Bokamoso.

The public meeting between I&APs and Bokamoso, the company responsible for performing an environmental impact assessment on the site, has been cancelled after numerous residents expressed their unhappiness with arrangements.

The meeting was originally scheduled to take place on the evening of 19 November in Kempton Park. However, residents of areas neighbouring the development site voiced their opinions that Bokamoso had deliberately chosen a venue far from the homes of many I&APs, and a time that would force many pensioners to drive at night.

“Please take note that it was never Bokamoso’s intention to propose a venue or meeting time that are inconvenient to the I&APs,” said Bokamoso in a statement, explaining that the venue was chosen for its large size and suitable audio-visual resources, while it was thought that an evening meeting would allow those who worked during the day to attend.

In order to accommodate concerned community members, Bokamoso has announced a new venue and date for the meeting, which will now take place on 2 December at the Jeppe Quondam Sports Club, which is situated only 6.4km from the Linksfield Mixed-Use Development study area. The meeting will take the form of two sessions to accommodate both working individuals and those who are unable to attend during the evening. Those who are able are encouraged to attend the earlier meeting in order to prevent seating shortages at the evening session.

Details: 2 December, 2.30-5pm and 6.30-9pm; Jeppe Quondam Sports Club, 79 Boeing Road East, Bedfordview.
