Bring light to the lonely

JOBURG - The Union of Jewish Women will celebrate its third Mitzvah Day with visits to some of Johannesburg's most vulnerable.

‘Mitzvah’ is the Hebrew word for a commandment exhorting people to do a good deed.

International Mitzvah Day, which is celebrated annually around the world, sees hundreds of charitably minded people doing just that. In this faith-based celebration, members of all religions bring light and pleasure to the lonely and the needy.

On 16 November, the Union of Jewish Women will celebrate Mitzvah Day by visiting homes across Johannesburg to provide entertainment and refreshments to inmates, children, vulnerable women and the elderly.

On the morning of 16 November, the women will visit Cosmos Old Age Home, Sandringham Gardens, Queen Alexandra Old Age Home, Silwood Lodge and Randjeslaagte Retirement Village, where choirs will provide entertainment, and gifts will be given to the elderly residents and their caregivers.
