Those kids can dance

GLENHAZEL - A colourful and spirited performance had audience members cheering and clapping at the Glenhazel Primary School concert.

Halloween spooks were nowhere to be seen as parents and pupils packed a brightly decorated school hall to enjoy Africa in One Day, an extravaganza of traditional costumes, dance and song.

The first of its kind, the concert was held to raise funds for the primary school, and its start was delayed as parents flocked to buy tickets in unexpected numbers.

The concert showcased the school’s singing talents in songs traditional and modern, while colourfully dressed performers demonstrated dances from South Africa, Zimbabwe, Botswana and beyond.

An energetic performance of one of Mango Groove’s hits had the audience clapping along, while township jazz, wedding dances and gospel songs were a hit. Dressed to impress in traditional costume, the school’s teachers joined in, and even the very young had their turn as the Grade R pupils appeared onstage to show off their moves.
