Pet Shop Boys to perform in Joburg

JOBURG - Iconic British synthpop duo, Pet Shop Boys, will perform in South Africa for the first time in December.

The duo, comprising Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe, has achieved 12 Top 10 studio albums, 40 Top 20 singles, and four number one records in a career that spans over three decades.

Known for singles including Go West, It’s a Sin, and West End Girls, the duo has received three Brit Awards and seven Grammy nominations.

Last year, Pet Shop Boys headlined two nights at Barcelona’s Sónar Festival. This year, Tennant and Lowe will headline A Taste of Sónar Johannesburg at Nasrec, as well as the opening night of Sónar Cape Town.

They will also play a stand-alone show in Durban.

“Their latest spectacular live show forms part of their sold out Electric 2014 world tour, and showcases some of the most cutting-edge production design and creative direction in the world,” said Natasha Goosen on behalf of local promoters, Seed Experiences.

“[The pair] have always been ahead of their contemporaries, and pioneered the electronic music landscape on a global scale with their ability to redefine the pop and dance music genres.”

Tennant and Lowe will be joined at the Joburg show by Belgian DJ brothers, 2manydjs, and The Bloody Beetroots.

Catch Pet Shop Boys on 12 December at A Taste of Sónar Johannesburg, Nasrec Expo Centre, Nasrec. They will also perform on 15 December at Cape Town’s Good Hope Centre, and on 19 December at Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium.
