Win tickets to the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra

PARKTOWN - The Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra will host a diverse array of performances for the third symphony season.

World-renowned concert pianist Andrey Pisarev, performed with the orchestra on 29 and 30 of October at the Linder Auditorium.

Pisarev is also a full-time professor at the Moscow Conservatory of Music but travels frequently around the world to deliver concert performances. His repertoire for the evening included the Piano Concerto no. 1 in E minor and Piano Concerto no. 2 in F minor by Federic Chopin

“This is my fifth time in South Africa,” he said. “There is always a warm audience and the standard of performances is high.”

Though he does not necessarily prefer one specific composer over another, Pisarev said he preferred classical and romantic era pieces.

“The best way to enjoy classical music is to listen,” said Pisarev who will tour Bloemfontein and Cape Town after his appearances in Johannesburg.

The orchestra’s CEO Duncan Gibbon concurred and said the uniqueness of attending classical music events was “the thrill of the live performance”.

The orchestra toured Azerbaijan earlier this year in July and developed a musical exchange with the country. For the second set of performances in this symphony season the orchestra will be hosting coveted musicians from Azerbaijan who shall be showcasing several renowned Azerbaijani compositions.

The Johannesburg Philharmonic is offering five sets of double tickets to the special Azerbaijan performance to be held at the Linder Auditorium on 12 and 13 of November.
