Flash flood warning for Gauteng

JOBURG - When it rains, it pours, so the saying goes.

In addition to the risk of load shedding that the country may have averted today, heavy rainfall and potential flash floods loom for some provinces.

Gauteng is one of several provinces at risk of experiencing flash floods due to heavy rain.

The South African Weather Services has released a weather watch for potential flash floods in Gauteng for the night of 3 November and the morning of 4 November.

There were widespread showers and thundershowers just west of Gauteng, which were currently moving into the north of the province, said forecaster Madimetja Thema.

The showers were expected to continue until tomorrow evening, however there were further chances of rain towards the end of the week, Thema said.

Heavy rainfall leading to flash flooding was also possible in the Free State, North West province, and the Western Cape.
