Fundraising event for children’s centre

MELROSE - An exciting fundraising event for a community centre will take place in Melrose.

The non-profit organisation Field of Dreams was founded by Lee den Hond through her epic accomplishment of conquering Mount Everest.

Field of Dreams caters to an under-privileged community near Harbeespoort. “My journey to the top of Everest was, in part, to satisfy my quest for adventure, but I knew I wanted to make this experience greater and do it to benefit others. With this driving force in mind, I set the goal to build a children’s centre for the Schaumburg Community near Hartbeespoort,” said Den Hond.

Den Hond was the third South African woman to summit Everest, and in continuation of her cause, an evening of entertainment, fashion and art will be hosted.

Celebrity performers will include Yvonne Chaka, Louise Carver and Joey Rasdien.

The centre is intended to create an environment for children and adults alike to have a functional, safe space for play and educational opportunities.

The overall aim is to dedicate an all-purpose area to support facility-based after school programmes in addition to other community activities.

The event will take place at 6pm on 20 November at The Venue in Melrose. Tickets are R1 000 per person.
