Glenshiel Christmas fair to delight shoppers

JOBURG - The Annual Glenshiel Christmas Fair will run from 31 October until 2 November.

This much anticipated fair takes place on the Westcliff ridge in the historic home and grounds of Glenshiel, a renowned Herbert Baker mansion and national monument.

Each year the fair showcases the best of local-style entrepreneurs selling everything from adults and children’s clothing, fashion accessories, jewellery, handmade toys, ceramics, linen, decadent Christmas cakes, puddings, delicious eats and treats, and of stocking fillers.

This year the fair boasts over 80 different stalls.

Rarely seen by the public, this is an opportunity to admire the panelled rooms and ancient banners of the Order of St John, while shopping for gifts from the Cape and Kwazulu-Natal.

The aim of the organisers is to showcase new and unusual gifts, as well some local favourites such as Liz Wood’s famous Christmas cakes, leather belts from the Argentine, and toweling kikois from Kenya.

Visitors to the fair will be able to enjoy the magnificent gardens overlooking the treed suburbs of Westcliff, Parkview, Zoo Lake and beyond.

The Food Hall will offer everything from gourmet burgers, delicious cocktails and wine to the more traditional tea and sweet treats. Opening times for the fair are 31 October from 9am to 6pm; 1 November from 9am to 5pm and 2 November from 9am to 2pm.

Entrance is R20 per adult.

Glenshiel is situated at 19 Woolston Road, Westcliff, Johannesburg.

Proceeds from the fair are used by the Order of St John to train unemployed members of marginalised communities in first aid and community health care.
