New spokesperson for Norwood police

NORWOOD - Norwood police station has appointed a new spokesperson who has pledged for unity between the station and the community.

The new spokesperson is Sergeant Nurse Sanyane who hails from Tzaneen, Limpopo. The 40-year-old police woman has vast experience in the police department as she has been a police officer for the past 11 years. Sanyane said, “Out of these 11 years, I spent 10 of them in Norwood police station.” Sanyane has been in Norwood police station since 2004 and said she knew the precinct like the back of her hand. “There were many challenges in that period, but the love I have for my job overcame all of that. Being a police officer is in my heart. I always wanted to be a police officer since my school days,” she said.

The ever-laughing police officer however admitted there are some scary instances in her job. “Sometimes you go to a scene and when you get there, you see something that gets you shaking and you can see this was meant for men. However, as a dedicated police officer you must soldier on, you must perform your duties,” she said. Sanyane stated as a woman police officer you have to be physically and mentally strong. She said one of the worst scenarios in the profession was the police killings. “Some of the things we see in the line of duty are hurtful, but you must tell yourself you will cross that bridge,” the Sanyane emphasised.

She appealed to the community to work closely with her and the police to curb crime in the precinct. Sanyane said she will continue working closely with the community as her predecessor, Constable Nonzwakazi Tsoanyane. “I am not here to change anything, but to strengthen the relationship between the station and the community. We need to be a unity, we must work together towards one goal of fighting crime in our area. People must know our offices are always open for any kind of assistance.”
