The festive Jewish holiday of Sukkos is traditionally a time for families and friends to gather in celebration.
While younger members of the community enjoy their own functions, Johannesburg’s seniors had their chance to celebrate as well at the extravagant annual Seniors’ Sukkos Party, held at Chabad House.
The grand Sukka saw 300 lively seniors flock to Chabad House for a fun-filled event. The audience enjoyed live music from the Lechatchila band by Yisrael Raff, entertaining performances from Roni Lea, Helen Heldenmuth, Cantor Mark Samowitz and the cast of Shooby Doob Shloimy, and sleight of hand displays from Magical Marc. A lavish feast including fine holiday delicacies kept attendees well-fed, while a grand raffle offered the chance to win fabulous prizes.
Chabad’s attention to seniors does not stop at Sukkos. The Chabad Seniors programme provides numerous interesting classes, craft lessons and guest lectures, as well as memory enhancement, technology and internet training.
